Rickey Singh’s article in yesterday’s Guyana Chronicle (March 25, 2010) reflects a singular fact – the fact that he was not at the opening ceremony of the casino at Princess Hotel. The President was clear that his view about the exclusion of resident Guyanese from the casino is a personal feeling. Singh should know the difference between the expression of a personal view and a statement of government policy.
Since he was not there it appears that he simply adopted the perspective of Stabroek News. As we know, Stabroek News cannot find anything good in the current administration.
Singh should be reminded that it was President Jagdeo who signed the legislation that permitted the opening of the casino.
There is a real risk with writers who do not live in Guyana, but who write as if they are here. More often than not they miss the context of statements and fall victim to noise by various opposition elements. Sadly, Mr. Singh has become a victim of his own distance.
Singh should have done the right thing and call the Office of the President for clarification of President Jagdeo’s stand, rather than invent one sourced by the opposition press.
Rickey Singh was not there
