A VENDOR at New Amsterdam Market, in Berbice, has been charged with theft from one of her customers.
But Dhanwattie Ramdat (no address given), on Monday, at New Amsterdam Court, denied the allegation which said she committed the offence on March 19, by stealing a wallet belonging to Neil Subryan.
She pleaded not guilty to simple larceny when she appeared before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo and was put on $50,000 bail until April 19.
Police Inspector Satrohan Dayaram, prosecuting, said Subryan had purchased bora from the defendant and forgot his wallet at her stall.
However, on returning minutes later and asking for the bill fold, he was told by Ramdat that she knew nothing about it, the Prosecutor said.
Dayaram said a report was made to the Town Constabulary and a search of the woman’s belongings, by its ranks, yielded the lost wallet containing $14,000 in local currency, Suriname money equivalent to G$1,100 and $10 Bahamas.
