Edwards and Hussain banned for 18 months by YWCC

THE Young Warriors Cricket Club (YWCC) has banned two of its first division players for 18 months effective from April 1, 2010, and handed both a fine of $5 000 each, after they both failed to turn up for the second day of a Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) nationwide three-day first division competition. The players are Waheid Edwards and Farouk Hussain, who both failed to turn up for the second day of the match between West Berbice and YWCC at Blairmont.
They were called for a hearing on Monday, but Edwards did not turn up and based on the evidence received, the disciplinary committee of the club found both players guilty of being rude, disrespectful, lacking discipline and commitment.
According to a press release, YWCC over the years may have sacrificed discipline and good ethics for the desire of winning, but has decided to put a stop to same, hence the penalty, which was handed out to the two players who are key individuals within the club’s structure.
However, the case of Edwards and Hussain will be reviewed at the end of the first six months, with the treasurer of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) Anil Beharry, who is also a senior executive of YWCC, advising that both players take the penalty in a positive manner to help them develop into better individuals on and off the field, in the future.
He added that no longer will the club tolerate indiscipline, which can become a chronic disease, as the club aims to keep young people away from the ills of society, such as drugs, gang wars and violence through the game of cricket.
