Michael Douglas, 22, of 24 Worthmanville, yesterday appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson to answer an assault charge. He pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on March 19, he unlawfully assaulted Shadwell Jones.
The defendant claimed that he and the virtual complainant work together and on the day in question they had an argument. He said he was making concrete blocks and he threw water on the virtual complainant’s sand. He said the virtual complainant became annoyed and threw water back on his sand and then hit him.
Douglas said he became annoyed and they both had an argument and he pushed the virtual complainant’s head in the sand. He said the virtual complainant was sent home from work after this behaviour.
The defendant was put on self-bail, while a summons was issued for the virtual complainant and the matter was transferred to another court for April 20.
