WARREN McKay returned one hour 24 minutes 17 seconds in winning the feature 35-lap event of the R&R International Cycle programme which was staged yesterday around the inner circuit of the National Park.
Apart from winning the Hassan Mohamed-organised feature race, McKay won seven of the eight prime prizes that were up for grabs, while second-place finisher Robin Persaud copped the other prime prize.
Marlon `Fishy’ Williams, Enzo Matthews, Alonzo Greaves and Ryan Austin occupied the other top four places in that order.
In other results from the day’s programme, Davenand Bissoon won the BMX three-lap race ahead of Marcia Dick and Naiomi Singh, while Virgil Jones won the Veterans Under-50 five-lap event from Kennard Lovell and Davindra Ramnarine second and third respectively.
The Veterans Over-50 5-lap race was won by Robert Beaton. Second was Aubrey Greavesande and third was Anthony Fariah.
Neil Reece won the 10-lap event for Juveniles while Paul De Nobrega placed second and Andre Petty third.
Jude Bently won the 5-lap race for upright cyclist while Richard Charles finished second and Kester Croal placed third.
Antonio Samaroo won the BMX boys six-nine years of age two-lap event ahead of Dion Bremmer and Nicholas D’Andrade second and third respectively, while D. Garbarran won the BMX boys 9-12 years of age three-lap race ahead of Steffan Lovell.
The BMX boys 12-14 years three-lap event was won by Darrius Ramsammy. Second was Christopher Griffith and third was Beraj Garbarran.
Bissoon won the BMX boys open three-lap race ahead of Ozia McUally and Kwesi Headley second and third respectively.
Meanwhile, the country’s top locally based wheelers will be in action once again today, when Mohamed runs off the 13th Annual Cheddi Jagan Memorial 50-mile road race in the West Demerara area.
The event will get under way at 09:00 h from outside the Wales Police Station from where senior and junior cyclists will journey to Bushy Park, East Bank Essequibo, before returning to the Demerara Harbour Bridge for the finish, while veterans and upright cyclists will turn back at Uitvlugt and finish at the Demerara Harbour Bridge also.
