Miss Guyana Universe off to Miss India Worldwide Pageant in Durban

The second runner up of the Miss Guyana Universe, Lucria Geetanjali Rambalak, has been selected by The Miss India Worldwide Organisation as Guyana’s delegate to the Miss India Worldwide Pageant in South Africa. Ms Rambalak, 22, is currently a student at the University of Guyana, majoring in Computer Science. She has been in the public eye since childhood. Be it in drama, dance or modelling, she has perfected the art of dance and is a key member of the “APSARA” dance group which produces a cross-cultural dance production annually and produces a magazine by the same name.
Ms Rambalak is also establishing herself as one of Guyana’s leading models, working with established outlets such as King’s Jewellery World and several others. She has also modelled for quite a few designers, including Sonia Noel, Michelle Cole, Rishma Persaud, Apsara Design, and Lynette Mangar’s Fashion. In 2009, Ms Rambalak, who was then entering a national beauty pageant for the first time, secured the second runner up place, Miss Photogenic, and the People’s choice award at the Miss Guyana Universe pageant.

The Miss India Worldwide pageant, dubbed the most glamorous Indian function in the world, is attended by many celebrities from the Bollywood and Hollywood film industries The contest will be held in Durban, South Africa on March 27th, 2010.
Miss India Worldwide is held by the Indian Festival Committee (IFC), which has been conducting Indian beauty pageants in the USA and around the world since 1980. The IFC selects distinguished local organizations in various parts of the world to select representatives to take part in the worldwide competition.
The contestants in all the pageants are of Indian origin, between the ages of 17 and 27, never married, and are citizens, residents, or born in the country which they represent. The pageant consists of four segments – Evening Gown, Indian Dress, Talent and Question-Answer.
The Miss India Worldwide Organisation is keen on selecting worthy beauty ambassadors for Guyana, cognizant of the fact that participating in the pageant serves as an ideal platform to showcase Guyana’s tourism product on the world stage. More so, participation in the Miss India Worldwide pageant allows Guyana to demonstrate that this is a country that takes seriously the development and exposure of the dynamic, rich and colourful heritage brought by our fore-parents from India.
Lucria Rambalak has appeared in the local Guyanese New York media.
