SOMETIME ago Freddie Kissoon wrote that Jagan maintained that he is a Marxist and Janet Jagan said that Guyana’s medical service is superior to that of the USA. A few times also he joins with the AFC criticising the PPP for taking a piece of land to build an office.
The PPP applied for the land since in the early nineties. At that time Khemraj Ramjattan was a member of the PPP and Trotman was a member of the PNC. The application went through the RDC and no one made any objection. It was only when the building started to be erected that there were wide condemnation in the media. Why didn’t these two gentlemen of the AFC object to it at that time? If it is such a big issue how come they did not know about it? It was their number one topic for discussion at their last convention.
Ramjattan was a member of the PPP for many years and never saw that socialism was a bad thing, now that he is out of the government he has become an anti-socialist. These guys claim that they are politicians, yet they do not know how to deliver a petition. The other day the judge had to throw out the AFC’s case because they had failed to file an affidavit of service immediately after bringing a petition to the court. These guys cannot see beyond their nose, how they can run a country.
Freddie, that area has plenty of land and if the PPP take a piece to build an office I cannot see what the big deal is. The party did not take away the land from anyone. If you visit the area you will see that there are many vacant house lots and there are areas where more can be developed.
The critics are behaving like little children, because big brother takes something that he needs, they start to cry. They too must have it if they need it or not.
Mrs. Jagan was right when she said that the Guyana medical service is superior to that of the USA.
For the developed world the health care system in the USA is at the bottom and cannot even compete with some undeveloped countries. I will recommend that Fredrick Kissoon look at some documentaries by Michael Moore’s; SICKO, CAPITALISM A LOVE STORY and FARENHEIT 911. These movies show what the real USA is. I think the television station should show these movies to the Guyanese people.
Critics of the PPP (many were members of the PPP) have suddenly become anti-marxist, anti-socialist and anti-communist. Freddie Kissoon was one time a member of the PPP and then he became a member of the WPA. The WPA leaders like Dr. Walter Rodney, Eusi Kwayana, etc were socialist. Fredrick Kissoon has changed to suit the opposition so he has to become anti-marxist. The whole of the opposition has changed their position from time to time but the PPP maintained their position as Marxist.
Can Freddie Kissoon tell his readers what is really wrong with Marxist ideology? Don’t tell them how Eastern Europe has fallen or how China has changed its position to capitalism or how Cuba has fallen back. Tell them what Karl Marx said.
If Karl Marx’s (a Jew) theory was wrong would he have spent his entire life defending what he stood for with out getting any reward for it. Although he lived in poverty he never sold his soul to the devil, but it is the critics that distorted his work and sold it as an evil theory.
All the man did was to show how human suffering will come to an end. He said that there is no short cut in achieving that.
Critics of Marxist philosophy point out to the downfall of Eastern Europe, China, Cuba etc as the downfall of communism, an end to Marxism and capitalism as mankind’s savior.
If capitalism is the system that will save mankind from poverty, how after over 300 years of existence over seventy percent of the world’s population live as if the Stone Age still exists.
If the world wants to build a communist state it must follow Marx theory or else it will end up in disaster. Any country that wants to build socialism, communism by itself will end up in a disaster.
Marxism doesn’t mean that we must uproot capitalism and replace it with communism.
Marx predicted that capitalism, which by its very nature will be forced to continually expand its reach until all four corners of the earth fall under its weight, would be paving the way for more extensive and exhaustive crises. So what Marx said has come to pass. The world is presently in crises.
Dr. Jagan once said that when America catches a flue the whole world coughs.
In the mid of 2008 American Economy started to crumble and it affected each country of the world. The government of the leading capitalist countries cannot find money to raise the wages of the working man but they find billions of dollars of the tax payer’s money to bail out the banks and the big manufacturing companies. What did these companies did with all the profits that they use to make.
Historian Eric Hobsbawn said “Unlike the civil war and the Wild West the age of robber barons has not become part of America popular myth [because] even the mind of the apologist boggles when face with barefaced crooks such as the financiers Jim Fisk or Jay Gould. Three things distinguish the era of America robber barons from the other flourishing capitalist economies of the same period.
The first was the total absence of any kind of control over business dealing, however ruthless and crooked.
The second was that most of the practitioners seemed uncommitted to any special way of making money.
The third was most rich people are self made, an American mythological corner stone to this day. Marx was right when he said that all rich men are either thieves or sons of thieves. He was not referring to the ordinary people who save their hard earn money but to those who own the means of production, the financial institution and the multinationals.
In his condensed edition of Das Kapital, Serge L Levitsky said that Marx thesis has failed to withstand the test of time. The capitalist system did not collapse as Marx has expected but flourishes as never before.
(1)The rapid growth and the extension of joint stock companies have all eliminated the individual capitalist owner who was the prime target of Marx’s attack. The tycoon has been replaced by the professional manager who does not own the capital, but is himself a salaried employee of the company.
(2)The established union is powerful enough to impose the workers demand without having to resort to violence,
(3)He would have found the modern capitalist state which sets itself social goals and intervene to protect the interest of the proletariat utterly unbelievable.
Unlike Marx and Jagan, critics like Levitsky and Kissoon cannot see beyond the present. They think that society becomes static at a certain time and that the present capitalist system is the final God given system.
The present depression has seen many of the professional managers and the salaried employees out of work. Their saving that they invested in the stock market has all gone. The middle class has started to vanish. Workers have to take pay cut instead of increase in salaries and wages. When the large companies are bailed out by the government the CEO and the top executive are given millions of dollars in benefits and the gates are closed to the workers with little or no payout. When the workers in the developed world go on strike the government enacts legislation forcing the workers back to work. Who do not heed the law are fired or sometimes end up in prison.
In some developed countries especially in North America agencies supply the workforce to employers. These workers work like slaves, they do not have any benefit, if they are involve in an accident they are not entitle to any sick benefit and they can be fired at anytime without any notice. This system saves the employers millions of dollars
. Marx theory simple meant that after the capitalist class cannot make profit they will close their factories and the workers will have to take over it for their survival.
Not Marx alone said that in the beginning everyone was equal.
The teachers, Elihu and Salome told Mary (the mother of Jesus) and Elizabeth (the mother of John the Baptist) that they must teach their sons “that God and man were one; but through carnal thoughts and words and deeds man tore himself away from God; debased himself.”
Marx said at the beginning men were equal but through the division of labor some men became rulers over their fellow men. This will end only when the consciousness of man arise, when men will treat his fellow men with purity and love.
Good things are comprehended only by a few and Marx work is such an example.
Elihu said in the Aquarian gospel “this age will comprehend but little of the works of purity and love; but not a word is lost and when the world is ready to receive it God will send a messenger to open up the book and copy from the sacred pages all the message of purity and love and everyman on earth will read the words of life in his native language, and men will see the light, walk in the light and be the light. And man again will be one with God.’
Marx may not be a man of God but his writing is similar to that of God.
The late Armstrong (the editor of the Plain Truth magazine) once said that Marx want to do what God wants to do.
Marx said that democracy is the road to socialism.
Dr. Jagan said after the 1992 election that our democracy is fragile and if it is not handled properly all the gains that we have struggled for so long will vanish.
Michael More said on the Larry King show that capitalism is not the answer to human problem but democracy.
Democracy said Simon Bolivar would be a long time taking root as it is too perfect and it demands virtues and political talents very superior to ours.
No country in the world has any full democratic system. Every country is trying to build it.
So when Dr. Jagan said he is a Marxist he knows what he was talking about not like the critics who believes they know more than Jagan and Karl Marx.
If God words are so distorted by man for his own benefit, what they will do to the words of Marx whom they feel is a threat to them.
In applying Marx theory mistakes will be made but at the end there will be a silver lining.
