ASL reduces fares to hinterland locations

At least one  hinterland air transport service has disclosed a reduction in fares.
Airline Services Limited (ASL) disclosed that it has reduced its fares
to hinterland locations Paramakatoi, Kaieteur, Mahdia and Kato, from
return prices of $54,000 to as low as $39,000.

The prices of the single tickets into these  four locations  have been
reduced from $32,000 to $29,000 while single tickets out of these
locations previously sold at $24,000 have been reduced in the case of
Mahdia to $10,000, in the case of  Paramakatoi and Kato, $15,000, and
Kaieteur  $12,000.
Disclosing this yesterday, an official said that the reductions were
aimed at making flights into the hinterland more affordable.
The reductions are in effect and will be in force until further notice.
Meanwhile, officials disclosed that the company is forging ahead with
the construction of a  $25M terminal at Mahdia as an upgrade of its
services for travellers  within the Region 8 (Potaro/Siparuni) area.
The terminal will consist of a large storage bond, a waiting area for
passengers,  washrooms, a hangar and other facilities, so that it could serve as a  trans-shipment point for goods from Mahdia into other areas of the hinterland, and vice versa.
An official  explained that persons living in areas in Region 8 which are not accessible by road, usually transport  their goods from the coastland by road up to Mahdia, and then use ASL services from there to
shuttle their goods into the inaccessible areas.
The Terminal will also make it easier for persons living in these
areas not accessible by road to bring out their goods to Mahdia and thence to the coastland, if necessary.
