GFF Super League resumes today with five matches

THE Guyana Football Federation’s `Win in CONCACAF with CONCACAF’ Super League will resume today with five matches at four different venues.
At the Enmore Community Centre ground, East Coast Demerara, two city sides – defending champions Alpha `The Hammer’ United and Sunburst Camptown – face two teams from that area.

From 16:00 h, Alpha United take on Victoria Kings while from 18:00 h, Buxton United come up against Sunburst Camptown.
Alpha United, who are currently preparing for the Caribbean Football Union’s Champions League, will be going all out for a victory today in order to increase their points.
When the league kicked off on February 28, they edged Seawall FC by a 1-0 margin to secure the full three points awarded for a victory in the competition.
Dwight Peters had scored the winning goal in the 60th minute.
Today, Peters will be seeking to add to his tally and he is expecting valuable support from his captain Howard Lowe as well as Edison Gomes, Quincy Madramootoo, Dwayne Jacobs and Philbert Moffatt. Doing duty between the uprights will be Ronson Williams.
Victoria Kings’ response will come from Rashleigh Morrison, Kwesi DeSouza, Winston Pompey, Pierre Joseph and Aubrey Gibson.
For the feature game, Sunburst Camptown, who won their opening game, will be spearheaded by Nigel Codrington, Orlando Gilgeous and Troy Prescod, with support coming from Lance Rawlston, Sherwin Cadogan and Richie Richards.
Buxton’s response will come from Clive Andries, Charles Critchlow, Keoma Sullivan, Travis Michael and Jamal Phyll.
At the Uitvlugt Community Centre ground, West Coast Demerara, home team Seawall United will host Upper Demerara’s Milerock from 16:00 h.
Leading Seawall’s challenge will be Delyon Josiah, Toine Lopes, Garlon Lewis, Zevon Atkinson, Keith Blackman and Adam Hoyte.
Milerock will be depending heavily on Gerald Whittington, Marlon Maxius, Randy Small, Alester Johnson, Derrol Dainty and Randy Jerome.
Up in Bartica, home team Solid Gold faces Bakewell Topp XX of Linden from 16:00 h.
Expected to appear for the home side are: Whitney Welcome, Dwayne Duke, Rondel Washington and Hamley Martindale, while Topp XX will have in their line up the likes of Michael Crandon, Troy Nelson, Charles Rose, Quacy Johnson, Trevor Whaterton and Keron Cameron.
The other match will be played at the GFC in Georgetown where Rosignol United of Berbice will meet the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) from 18:00 h.
GDF, who is also preparing for the CFU Champions League will have in their lineup Stellon David who scored a 75th-minute goal to give his team a 1-0 victory against Liquid Gold in their opening match of the tournament along with Delroy Deen, Eusi Phillips, Marlon Benjamin, Clement Browne, Darrius Garraway, Shawn Seaforth and Warren Gilkes.
Rosignol United’s attack will come from Garson Baker, Olvis Mitchell, Delwin Fraser, Roncy Caleb, Tyson Carmichael and Sherwin Lewis.
At the same venue (GFC), the GFF’s Under-17 Inter-Association Championship will kick off from 16:00 h with a clash between Berbice and East Bank.
Meanwhile, Administrative Director of the league, Kirk Douglas, had said recently that the league would be conducted on a two-round home and away tie basis, with the top eight of the 10 participating teams contesting a knock-out competition at the end of the first round and the winner would be declared the knock-out champions.
The eight teams will then contest a second round and the top four teams will contest another knock-out competition with the winner being declared Super League champions.
Douglas had said the GFF’s inaugural Upper League which was staged last year was played on a one-round basis, but since then the GFF decided to stage a two-round league, which of course will cost much more than last year’s league.
The first round is expected to culminate in May, before Guyana celebrates its Independence anniversary, while the second round is expected to start late August or early September and end in October.
