A Coast Guard patrol, while returning to Parika from an authorized routine mission on Wednesday last, apprehended a boat captain North of the Hoobu Koker. A subsequent search of the vessel he was operating unearthed a bag of marijuana hidden in its bow.
Members of the patrol noticed the captain acting in a suspicious manner which prompted a search of the vessel. Derrick Singh of East Bank Essequibo told ranks he encountered some engine problems and was seeking to correct same.
He was taken into Coast Guard custody and transported to the Parika police station where he and the prohibited substance were handed over to the police. The find was estimated at four pounds.
