Ravens, Maccabees and Pacesetters emerge winners
THE Dyna’s Ravens, the Maccabees and Courts Pacesetters were the occupants of the winners’ circle on Thursday night as the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association’s (GABA) Open and Third Division League continued at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
In their third division encounter with the Eagles the Dyna’s Ravens amassed a total of 103 points while the former could muster only 49 points in reply. Tyrone Hamid with his game-high 33 points and Marlon Haynes and Courtney Hinds, who scored 15 points each, were the ones who bore the weight of the scoreboard for that side.
The first half saw the Eagles score 27 points to the Ravens’ 44. The losing side had Nazil Mohamed and Eon Tappin to thank for their efforts as they both managed 12 points to lead the team’s scorecard.
The Eagles’ ill-fortune was ubiquitous as they suffered the same fate in their first division encounter with the Maccabees which ended 50-68. At the end of the first half the Maccabees had already begun to chip away at their imminent victory as they were up by ten points, 23-33.
Jodayah Stewart turned in the game-high score of 25 points while Darren Thomas pitched in with 21 points. Troy Ferdinand, who managed 10 points, was the only player on the Eagles side to register a double digit score.
The final match-up on the three-game ticket was the feature encounter between the Courts Pacesetters and the Bounty Colts, which was a close game throughout. At the end of the first half the Pacesetters, who were the eventual winners, were holding onto a one-point lead as the score card read 38-39 in their favour.
Stephon Gillis and Royston Siland scored 15 points each, which was the high for that side, while Naylon Loncke scored 13 points, this three-man combination got the Pacesetters well on their way to their final total of 78 points. Despite Gavin Elam’s game-high effort of 20 points and Oneico Fraser’s 18 point total, the Colts were unable to beat their opponents as they ended the game on 75 points.
