A MAN is in police custody following the discovery of the body of a woman floating in the Canje River, Berbice yesterday morning.
Police said the body of Jairool Rohoman, 42, of Betsy Ground, Canje, Berbice, was found floating in the Canje River at about 8:30 hrs yesterday.
Her feet were tied together with canvas sling and suspected burns were seen on her left hand.
Police reported that Jairool had left home during the morning of March 7, 2010, to visit her reputed husband at his place of employment in Canje and had not returned home.
She was reported as missing to the police at about 21:00 hrs on Monday night by one of her sons.
The body is at the New Amsterdam mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination.
