Kaieteur News will not succeed in its ‘wicked attempt to dampen my indomitable spirit or force me into retreat’

There is a carefully orchestrated plan by the opposition media in Guyana, in particular the Kaieteur news to target Kwame Mc Coy for negative publicity.
To remain dedicated to its role, the Kaieteur news either fabricates a story or knowingly misrepresents the truth.

In today’s edition, an article which headlined, ‘Kwame Mc Coy under investigation again’ further illustrates the callous, reckless and presumptuous nature of this newspaper.

The article is an ‘absolute lie’ and had nothing to do with me abusing any police.

On the morning of March 7, while chatting with a group of about 10 persons on Hunter Street, I saw two men whom I subsequently learnt were Rural Constables, threw a young man into the back of their pickup vehicle # GHH 7969, drove off, lashed him with a baseball bat and then pushed him out of the speeding vehicle.

The young man held on to the back rail of the vehicle and then rolled himself down to the road.

They continued driving while several persons went to his rescue. The said vehicle returned about three minutes later and an irate crowd started to rebuke them for their abuse of the young man when one of the Rural Constable threatened members of the gathering. I was standing close-by and observed they were reeking with alcohol.

I then accompanied a team to the Ruimveldt Police Station where the victim, another young man and I made reports against the Rural Constables. At no time did I use expletives or abused any police rank.

This campaign by the Kaieteur News is in collaboration with opposition parties whose objective is to seek to damage my prospect as a young black rising star in the PPP.

I am aware that the Kaieteur News’ anti-Kwame cabal includes Glenn Lall, Adam Harris, Dale Andrews and Neil Marks.

On November 9, 2009, I had reported in the letter columns the Kaieteur news policy taken at one of its editorial meetings to stop publishing letters or articles authored by me as part of their revenge strategy for my frequent address on their misreporting.

Here are a few paragraphs from my letter:
‘’’The Kaieteur news is playing its cards so wildly that one cannot miss its obvious agenda of a smear campaign against officials of the Government.
I am aware that the reporter did include in her original story my comments which was subsequently struck out by the editor on duty after remarking that,  “…Kwame’s position could be accommodated on the 6’O’clock news’’. His remarks attracted a burst of laughter in the newsroom.
My information is that Kaieteur news editorial management has a policy decision on me about two months ago which states they will not publish any letters, views or opinions coming from me.
There have been countless occasions on which I have had reason to bring to the attention of Kaieteur News inaccuracies and imbalance reporting which the editor generally admits deficiency.”
I am also aware of their deliberate editorial policy to publish misinformation and then apologise once an objection is launched when the damage would have already been done. Those who are familiar with the ‘perception theory’ would understand the Kaieteur news logics of deceit and mischief.
On February 26 last, the Kaieteur news refused to publish my press statement on the bogus suspension by the Region Four (Regional Council) but found it convenient and appropriate to publish and give prominent highlight to every single press release by Regional Chairman Clement Corlette.
The Kaieteur news finds sensational and worthy of headlining anything negative against me.
This systematic campaign is in collaboration with the opposition but they would not succeed with their attempt to dampen my indomitable spirit or force me into retreat. Kwame Mc Coy will remain committed to fighting injustices and protecting the rights of those who have elected me to serve them.
Time will reveal the full scale of the wickedness of the Kaieteur news.

Sincerely,
Kwame Mc Coy
Press & Publicity Officer to the President
