WDCA/NLAF Limited overs tourney …
A RECORD 235-run third-wicket partnership between national middle order batsman Gajanand Singh (123) and Chabiraj Ramcharran (121) powered Canal Number Two Sports Club to a mammoth 289-run victory over Wales Community Development Centre (WCDC). The two had met in the West Demerara Cricket Association (WDCA)-organised New Line Aqua Farm (NLAF)-sponsored 40 overs competition which continued last Sunday.
Winning the toss and asking their opponents to take first strike at the CNTSC ground, WCDC must have regretted doing so, as first Andrew Lyght Jr, in his usual pugnacious style, blasted 48 off 20 deliveries decorated with five sixes and three fours.
The 22-year-old Singh, who had recently returned with the Guyana team from their dismal performance in the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Regional four-day competition, struck 18 fours and one six in his 123 made off 104 deliveries.
Ramcharran was also in a ferocious mode, hitting 11 sixes and nine fours in his 121 that took him 77 balls to accumulate, as their record third-wicket partnership which was worth 235 runs from 24 overs, enabled CNTSC to reach an unassailable 369-6 from their 40 overs.
Brian Pooran took 2-46 for WCDC who found the bowling of Feroze Karimullah and Nandkishore Singh who took three wickets each for 6 and 7 runs respectively too much to handle and folded for a paltry 89 in reply, with Terry Daniels 38 (8×4) and Paul Doris 14 (3×4) being the main scorers.
The competition continues this weekend.
