Man remanded on armed robbery, drug trafficking charges

AMAN Lallchand, 29, was yesterday remanded to prison on charges of robbery under arms, drug trafficking and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition. The defendant (no address given) appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton and pleaded not guilty to, among other things, having six live rounds of .38 ammunition without lawful authority on March 2 and one revolver without being the holder of a firearm licence.

It was also alleged that on the same day, Lallchand had 67 grammes of cannabis (marijuana) to traffick.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charges of armed robbery,  which said that:

* on March 1, being armed with a gun, he robbed Troy Collins of a quantity of gold and diamond jewellery with a total value of $1.4M;

* o March 2, he robbed Tonica Persaud, at gunpoint, of a cell phone worth  $28,000;

* on the same day, he did similarly to Duane London, who was relieved of  of gold and diamond jewels valued $1.4M and a $30,000 cell phone in booty worth $2.1M;

* on that day, too, his gunpoint robbery victim was Sheldon Cheddi, who was relieved of $10,000 and gold jewellery worth $740,000 and

* on December 4, 2009, robbed Maxwell Thom of two ‘LG’ computer monitors valued $120,000, two digital recorders priced at $600,000 and $200,000, making a total loss of $920,000.

Lallchand has to be back in Court on March 23 for the robbery cases and June 16 for the others.
