UNIQUE, astonishing and high quality were some of the adjectives used, by visitors yesterday, to describe the Chinese ceramic exhibition that is currently ongoing at the Chinese Association, in Brickdam, Georgetown. Ms. Alice Cao, a translator employed by the hosts, was showing off the pieces when the Guyana Chronicle visited.
On display are a wide variety of decorative large and small pieces, including tables, vases of various sizes, kitchen utensils, jars, jewel boxes, sculptures, trinkets, framed art work and many more.
Various items with religious and other significance are on show, too, some made of wood, brass, bamboo, ivory and other materials, but all ceramic and hand made.
China is richly endowed with the raw materials for ceramics and the first products were made about 11,000 years ago. Chinese Ceramics range from construction materials such as bricks and tiles, to hand made pottery and sophisticated porcelain wares for the Imperial Court.
The exhibits will remain on show through March 15.
