Police destroy 18 acres of marijuana cultivation

Police, assisted by the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Air Corps, on Thursday conducted a drug eradication operation at Gateroy, 55 miles up the Berbice River, which netted several marijuana (cannabis sativa) fields and a quantity of compressed marijuana. Police reported that during the operation, a total of ten fields of marijuana plants, comprising about 18 acres, were found and destroyed.

The fields contained approximately 28,000 plants ranging from 1 foot to 10 feet in height.

In addition, a building with approximately 3,000 kilograms of compressed marijuana, along with 15 nurseries with about 45,000 marijuana seedlings and eight  camps were found and destroyed.

No arrest was made.
