FIRE of unknown origin, last Thursday night, swept across the vast savannah aback of Lima Sands and Mc Nabb villages on Essequibo Coast, killing snakes, eels and other reptiles.
Reports said the place was dry after the Regional Administration of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) drained water from it to irrigate cultivated rice fields that the El Nino phenomenon deprived of irrigation.
During the blaze, residents living miles away near to the public road saw the red glare in the sky.
Meanwhile, a cattle farmer dumped the carcass of a cow in the main canal on which consumers now depend for water to cook, wash and bathe.
The complainants are expecting the Public Health Department to quickly address the situation.
