Esssequibo Mash celebrations
PREPARATIONS are underway for thousands to participate in Mash Day celebrations at Ana Regina on Essequibo Coast.
The Regional Administration in Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) said the revelry will be concentrated in the commercial centre of that town, where several Government buildings are already decorated in the colours of the National Flag.
Many schools and business houses are also displaying decorations to usher in the 40th Republic Anniversary.
Essequibo Technical Institute (ETI), headed by Principal Dennis Jaikarran, who is in charge of Region Two programme, is one of showpieces with fairy lights and colourful streamers.
Among the new activities this year are Best Neighbourhood Village Competition, Day of Sports for the Differently-able; kaiyaps in Amerindian communities (self-help), an art exhibition, Best Decorated and Illuminated Buildings Competition and displays of food, clothing and accessories, reflective of the various ethnic groups.
The Regional Administration has announced that the Flag-raising Ceremony will be held on Anna Regina Fire Station tarmac at 07:00 h on February 23, involving ranks of the Disciplined Services.
The Mashramani Float Parade, with Private Sector, Government entities and farmers participating, will start from Taymouth Manor School junction and end at Anna Regina Community Centre Ground, where a cultural show will be staged on Mash Night.
