Toussaint guides South Ruimveldt to GCB Under-19 female final

A SOLID all-round performance from skipper Lashaunna Toussaint was enough to steer South Ruimveldt Secondary into the final of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Under-19 Female Inter-secondary school competition, when they defeated Beterverwagting Secondary School (BSS) in the Demerara zone final yesterday.
Winning the toss and asking her
opponents to take first strike in the match which was contested at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground, the 15-year-old Toussaint, who bowls off spin, and medium pacer Abiola Jacobs took three wickets each for 24 and 36 runs respectively, as BSS were bowled out for 102 from 25 overs.
Extras (27), Canica Wilman 22 (3×4) and Tiffany Gibson and Atina Barry with 15 each, were the principal scorers for BSS, who found it difficult to contain the eventual victors who scored 104-6 from 17.5 overs, in their turn at the wicket.
Toussaint returned with the bat to make an unbeaten 31 which was decorated with four fours, including a sweetly timed drive from bended knees through the cover region, while Tenisha Johnson who made an unbeaten 18 and Letitia Myles with 17 offered her support.
Gibson and Barry tried desperately to keep BSS in the match, with their figures of 3-24 and 2-23 respectively, but they found little support from the bowling staff in an effort to contain Toussaint who had earlier retired hurt on 12.
South Ruimveldt will meet Friendship Secondary in the final which will be played at the same venue tomorrow.
