Taxi driver charged with abusing passenger

A TAXI driver was yesterday charged with using abusive language to an immigration officer.
Cebert Archibald, 34, of Lot 35 West La Penitence, Georgetown, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson and pleaded not guilty to the charge, which said, on February 8, he abused Patrice Gonsalves.

Attorney-at-law, Mr. Adrian Thompson, for the Defence, said the defendant was conveying the virtual complainant to a destination but she refused to pay the fare because he was not wearing his seat belt.
Gonsalves said Achibald became annoyed when she requested him to put on his seat belt, telling her she cannot run his show.
She said, when she arrived where she was going, she went to get his money but the defendant disembarked the vehicle and verbally abused her.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, did no object to bail but said taxi divers should not be abusing passengers if this country wants to promote tourism.
Archibald was ordered to post $15,000 surety until March 17.
