The police are investigating the murder of Brazilian miner, Evanero Altantara Tarmo, 44, who was reportedly shot and killed on Wednesday at a mining camp at Oku Backdam, Cuyuni, during an armed robbery by three men armed with a handgun, a cutlass and a knife. The three armed men entered the mining camp and held up his Taramo’s wife, Aglenzinia Maria De Jesus, and demanded gold. She was assaulted by the armed men who then went to the mining pit where they confronted Tarmo.
He was assaulted by the men and then shot after which they took away a quantity of raw gold and escaped.
Efforts are being made to transport the body to Georgetown.
