An ex-fireman yesterday appeared in court to answer charges of uttering a forge official document and conspiracy to commit a felony.
Nigel Douglas, 31, of 171 Unity Street La Grange, West Bank Demerara, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson and pleaded not guilty to the charges, which stated that on August 2, 2008, he uttered to a police corporal a forged driver’s licence in favour of himself, knowing same to be false. And between December 20, 2006, and January 31, 2007, he conspired with persons unknown to forge one driver’s license purporting to show that is was issued by the Guyana License Office, knowing same to be false.
The defendant told the court that a friend of his from the Guyana National Printers limited told him that he can assist him to get his license. He said after police stopped him and checked his document then he was aware that the document was not genuine.
Douglas was put on $175,000 bail and the matter will be called again on February 3.
