THREE Survival Supermarket employees appeared in Court yesterday on a joint simple larceny charge.
Khemraj Wilfred, 26, of Lot 116 Barr Street, Kitty, Carlos Duncan, 57, of Lot 37 North Sophia and Wayne Archer, 30, of Lot 53 Independence Boulevard, Albouystown, all in Georgetown, were accused, before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, of having, on January 18, stolen six cases of ‘Guinness’ stout, valued $32,000, property of Tameshwar Arjune.
Wilfred and Duncan pleaded not guilty while Archer pleaded guilty with explanation.
Archer said he was on duty that day when Wilfred told him he had the beverages, which he and Duncan took to a shop in Barr Street.
Archer said he called his employer and while they were talking, Duncan caused the latter to hear what was transpiring, through a speaker phone.
After hearing that narrative, the magistrate entered a not guilty plea for Archer.
Duncan said it was Archer who instructed them to take the merchandise to the other shop.
Arjune, who was in Court, confirmed that Archer alerted him and is still on the job but the other two did not return to work after the theft.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, objected to bail, stating that the virtual complainant gave Wilfred and Duncan money to purchase the stout and they left six cases where Wilfred and Duncan were apprehended.
However, the magistrate overruled the objection and granted the defendants pre-trial liberty on $60,000 surety, individually, before transferring the case to another Court, for February 15.
