-Earthquake miracle boy says, ‘God helped me’
APPROXIMATELY eight days after the devastating earthquake in Haiti, New York City Urban Search and Rescue, along with Virginia Rescue, pulled an alive and healthy young boy named Kiki, and his sister Sabrina, out of the rubble of a supermarket in Port au Prince. According to London’s Evening Star online news, “earthquake miracle boy Kiki”, whose joyous rescue made headlines and pictures around the world, yesterday said “God helped me.”
Kiki Joachin smiled with delight with his arms outstretched as he was pulled out of the wreckage of crumbled buildings in Port-au-Prince.
But tragically their younger brother did not survive and died in the rubble.
The family, living in abject poverty, were tracked down by Sky News reporters living in a shanty town in the country’s capital.
Kiki told the broadcaster he felt “happy” to be rescued and said he cried when he was reunited with his parents.
Asked how he managed to survive without food and water, he said: “God helped me.” (Matthew McDermott/Polaris/Sky News photo)
