Court told…
Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday upheld a Police objection and refused bail to Dwight Haywood, 30, of Lot 3248 South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, on an unlawful wounding charge.
The accused, who is charged indictably with having, on January 10, wounded Lloyd Kissoon with intent to maim, disfigure or cause grievous bodily harm, was remanded to prison until January 28.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, objected to pre-trial freedom for Haywood, on the ground that the virtual complainant is still hospitalised.
The Prosecutor said the injured man and the accused were at a fish shop and, because the former lowered the volume of the music, the latter became annoyed.
An argument ensued between the two and the accused broke a bottle and cut the victim on his neck.
Haywood, however, claimed he and Kissoon are friends and it was never his intention to seriously injure him but he was attacked first.
