A healthy 2010 to all.
As a humanitarian, it is indeed heartbreaking to learn of the recent earthquake disaster that rocked Haiti and so many lives lost and cannot be accounted for.
I am very proud to learn that The Guyana Red Cross Society, the Government and citizens are all making every effort to pitch in with whatever is available.
Let us remember those in Haiti during our respective religious meetings.
With all the relief that has already been pouring in the disaster island and pledges from major donor countries, Haiti will eventually get back on its feet and my concern is that I hope that they don’t return to the conditions and way of life just before the tragedy.
I view this tragedy as one that none of us has had any control over and this is perfect timing, that Haiti will soon be transformed for a better way of life.
At the same time, it is also my wish that both the people and government get their act in order because sooner or later they will be totally in charge.
The global manpower and tools will be provided in rebuilding and it’s one of the greatest starts that could ever be given for a new chapter.
I extend my respect to the local arm of the United Nations and all Voluntary Agencies who may have lost personnel during the disaster. If I had my way, I would definitely drop tools and head out to Haiti, but unfortunately it just doesn’t work that way because of logistics and protocol. Nevertheless, to those who might be selected to wing out and offer your services, I salute you.
