Police still looking for suspect in August murder

A post mortem will be performed today on the body of 25-year-old Sunita August, and according to Colin West of the Police ‘D’ Division, no headway has been made in locating the primary suspect in her death, her reputed husband, 25-year-old Ramesh Munniram.

August’s body was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital mortuary after being found in a channel near the Nismes koker, on the West Bank of Demerara.

Munniram, called Bobby, reportedly confessed to relatives that he had killed August.Since then he has been missing.

Eyewitness reports indicate that the man, after confessing, left his parents’ home with a bottle containing what is suspected to be a poisonous substance.

Munniram, who spent some time working in Barbados, has been staying at parents’ home after having left the residence he shared with August.

The couple reportedly separated some time back and has been struggling with domestic issues for some time.

August’s cousin told the Guyana Chronicle Munniram asked the deceased to meet him in order to collect some $30,000 in child support as well as shoes for the couple’s children.

That was the last time she was seen alive.
However, while relatives are coping with August’s death, her children have not yet grasped the fact of her death. Three-year-old Juanita, five-year-old Kevin, and eight-year-old Shellon are reportedly not doing very well.

The dead woman’s sister, Ms. Lorraine August said, “The children crying. They not fully conscious of what happen. The small one asking when Sunita coming home and why she taking so long.” The deceased was described as caring mother and an easy- going and generous person.
