More road fatalities

Sybil Hetemeyer, 72, of St. Magdalene Street, New Amsterdam, Berbice, succumbed to her injuries following a fatal accident on New Year’s Day.

Police reported that at about 19:45 hours on January 1, 2010, on Main Street, New Amsterdam, pedal cyclist Sybil Hetemeyer, was riding along the roadway when it is alleged that she attempted to ride across the road and was struck down by an oncoming motor cycle. Hetemeyer and the motor cyclist received injuries and were admitted at the New Amsterdam Hospital.

Sybil Hetemeyer was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries on Sunday.

The motor cyclist is still a patient at the New Amsterdam Hospital.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, the police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred at about 09:00 hours on Sunday January 03, at 48 Miles, Mabura Road.

Nashaw Shameer, 35, of Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo, was a passenger in motor pick-up PJJ 567 when the driver lost control of the vehicle which turned turtle, resulting in Shameer receiving injuries.

He was taken to the McKenzie Hospital where e was pronounced dead on arrival.
