Man bonded for unauthorised conversation with prisoner

DEON Gordon, 37, was yesterday put on a bond to keep the peace for one year, after being convicted of speaking to a prisoner without lawful authority.

The probationer pleaded guilty to the offence before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, admitting that he committed it on December 27, at the Camp Street, Georgetown prison.

Gordon (no address given) told the Court he was passing by the jail when his neighbour’s friend called out and asked him to deliver a message to his relatives.

The defendant claimed he was not aware that it was unlawful to talk to a prisoner but the magistrate informed him that ignorance of the law is no excuse.
