Surgeon charged with patient fraud

ORTHOPAEDIC surgeon at Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), Dr Boris Rodney has been charged with fraud.

The defendant, 23, of Lot 139 Waterloo Street, Georgetown appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday and pleaded not guilty to having, on December 8, with intent to defraud, obtained $40,000 from Shawn Joseph, by falsely pretending the virtual complainant can have his surgery done.

Defence Counsel Lawrence Harris told the Court Joseph approached Rodney who tried his best to help him.
The lawyer maintained that Rodney did not collect any money from the patient.
Rodney was put on $20,000 bail until January 12.
