Man charged with murdering ‘Bin Laden’ freed

SAHEED Rahaman who was accused of the murder of back track traveller, Fazal Mohamed Hossein called ‘Bin Laden’ was freed at the Preliminary Inquiry on a no-case submission.

When the matter was called up for hearing on Christmas Eve Day at the Springlands Magistrate’s Court, Defence Counsel Mr. Huckumchand with lawyers Kamini Parag and Sonia Parag submitted that the prosecution had failed to make out a prima facie case against the accused.

The magistrate Mr. Krishendatt Persaud was asked to find that the prosecution had failed to establish any evidence to implicate the accused in any crime whatsoever.

As a consequence, the magistrate upheld the submissions and dismissed the accused at this stage of the proceedings.

Saeed Rahaman was charged for murdering Fazal Mohamed Hossein also called ‘Bin Laden’.

It was alleged that the deceased who had a large sum of cash on him was travelling on the back track route from Suriname to Springlands when he was taken off the boat by masked men. Later he was found dead. (George Barclay)
