Prime Minister Samuel Hinds on December 25 (Christmas Day) attended a Christmas lunch for senior citizens of the Dharm Shala, a home of benevolence for all races. The lunch was held at King Edward Street, Albouystown.

Prime Minister Hinds, while addressing residents, said he was very pleased to have joined in the celebration and lauded the caretakers for their dedication and commitment to senior citizens.

He was impressed with the rehabilitation of the building.

“It is quite impressive and I would like to commend the Ramsaroop family for years of hard work done to have the home maintain quality and standard,” the Prime Minister noted.

Mr. Hinds said that since his first visit to the home in 1992 there have been requests for better living conditions and he noted that Government has helped in this regard.

Prime Minister Hinds posited that Christmas is a time for children. It is a season for them to be pampered and he urged all in attendance to focus on making all Guyana’s children happy since they are the future of the country.
He encouraged the caretakers to put their best foot forward towards the maintenance and care of the elderly.

On the issue of proper and adequate electricity supply to residents especially to benevolent homes and orphanages, the Prime Minister said that Guyana will benefit from enhanced electricity supply at the beginning of the New Year through hydro-power development in Guyana.

This new development will see an improved service of generated power supply to homes receiving electricity.
