GAPA providing Fertilizer assistance to farmers

THE Guyana Agricultural Producers’ Association (GAPA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, is currently distributing fertilizers to small farmers’ groups in various Regions.

GAPA said that to date, in excess of 1,200 bags of fertilizers were distributed to farmers’ groups within Regions 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 10 with a total of over 2,800 small scale producers benefitting.

This support is aimed at supplementing the Ministry of Agriculture’s Grow More Campaign to further boost the production of nontraditional agriculture and, at the same time, maintain Guyana’s food security.

In addition, the provisions of fertilizer will also assist farmers during the current prevailing El Nino conditions to maintain production.

Further, this exercise will continue over the next few weeks which will see other groups benefiting.

Mr. Nandlall Mangal, National Coordinator of GAPA is urging all non-traditional (Cash Crops) farming groups and farmers to register with the association to benefit from in initiatives like these.

For further information, GAPA is urging farmers to make contact with it’s Secretariat at 18 Brickdam, Georgetown.
