The Fazal I Knew
“Fazal was a fighter and perhaps our party song “O Fighting Men” depicts the kind of person he was. He never gave up; always fought to win a battle and demonstrate his dedication to the Party and patriotism to his country throughout his life.

Fazal had tremendous energy and high spirits, infecting even those who might disagree with him. He was a fine organiser and a great mobiliser of people. People like Fazal Ally were born for our Party, which has guided and nurtured such members. We miss him.”
– Mrs. Janet Jagan

“I had the honour to recruit him during the latter part of his high school days in the Progressive Youth Organisation (PYO). Since that time in early 70s, it was no turning back for Fazal Ally to associate himself in the active struggle for genuine political independence for our dear country. Many people in Canals Polder must have remembered the leadership this young revolutionary provided to his people.’

I remember the days when we would organise so that our leader, Dr. Cheddi Jagan, could travel down the Canal in small boats, since the road was impassable, to address so many seminars to educate our comrades about the struggle. Fazal would always be in the forefront of those activities. Fazal’s distinctive work in GAWU and even outside of this premier trade union body was noticed by one of his mentors, Pariag Sukhai, who then recruited him in the Rice Producers Association. Just after a few years in the RPA, Fazal took over the mantle of leadership. History will record him, no doubt, as a foremost General Secretary of the Rice Producers Association. He worked tirelessly to address the concerns of farmers, and he had deep understanding of the problems, particularly of the Rice Industry, to be able to remain at the helm of the struggle of the farmers.
– Komal Chand

“Fazal was a vibrant representative, with his own characteristic style, very vocal in his representation, both as a Trade Unionist and General Secretary of the Rice Producers Association.

He fought vigorously for farmers. Fazal’s public- spirited tendency led him to represent people in other areas as well, and so it will be remembered that he made representation for Sophia residents and the vendors. Fazal will be long remembered. Let his soul journey to the realm of eternal peace and bliss.”
– Reepu Daman Persaud

“Comrade Fazal Ally was always willing to share advice, or even help with the mobilisation efforts of the PYO. He often referred to how things were done during his time in PYO and urged us to ensure that the organisation remains dynamic and strong. He would constantly enquire about what the PYO was doing and how he could be of assistance”.
