Minister Sukhai said the purpose of the training was for participants to learn the proper methods of documenting cultural developments for tourism production, developing business skills, and becoming trained in tour guiding and areas of marketing.

She elaborated on tourism, stating that there is a steady flow of tourists in Region Nine, a strong pull towards visitors in areas of bird watching and site-seeing with the canopy walkway at Iwokrama.

The Minister urged the participants that when they have completed their training they should be able to return home with ideas and motivation to ensure that their lakes are more alluring and attractive, since tourism is one of the key sectors for the Guyanese economy.

Minister Sukhai told them that they should apply all that they have been taught during their training in whatever fields they decide to pursue, and they should use what they have to their advantage to attract resources which will help them develop further business potential.

She stated that this opportunity helps the individuals to inculcate personality traits, dedication and work ethics, and urged that they give back to their communities since they would be responsible for their further development. (GINA)
