THE TEACHING staff and pupils of Rockstone Primary School in Region Ten (Upper Demerara/Berbice), last Friday observed a minute’s silence on receiving news of the death of Minister within the Ministry of Education, Dr. Desrey Fox.
The announcement was made by President of the Rockstone Community Development Association (RCDA), Pastor Timothy Norton, who, along with other members of the group, travelled to that location to give the pupils an end-of-term Christmas treat.
The news was received with deep shock by everyone assembled for the function. Headmistress Ms. Fay Richards, on behalf of the school and the wider Rockstone indigenous community, located on the outskirts of Linden, expressed their appreciation for Dr. Fox’s contribution to the education sector.
She also conveyed their condolences to relatives and friends of Dr. Fox, whom the school’s population had looked up to as an icon and role model.
Visiting student Timothy Welch recited a road safety poem as a tribute to Dr. Fox, a road safety advocate who, in November, 2006, presented trophies to the winning schools during the National Schools’ Road Safety Rally at the National Park.
Dr. Fox died around 03:00h last Friday after being involved in a three-vehicle accident on Tuesday, on Thomas Road, outside Camp Ayanganna, headquarters of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF).
