Gynaecologist received suggestive text from married patient, court hears

– London-based doctor accused of causing Guyanese-born patient to have two orgasms in under two minutes
(UK Telegraph): BIBI Giles, a married woman who claimed to have been given two orgasms by her gynaecologist during a consultation sent him a suggestive text message asking him to “christen” her, a court was told.

Mrs Giles, who is suing Angus Thomson claiming sexual assault and sexual harassment, sent the “overtly sexual” text six months after he had operated on her.

He later gave her an intimate examination during a six-week check-up, that caused her to have two orgasms in under two minutes.

She said she had continued to see Mr Thomson, 40, because she was desperate to be cured, and claimed she sent the text because it was the best way to get his attention after he asked her to have an affair.

But Christina Lambert QC, representing Mr Thomson, accused Mrs Giles of constructing “a wicked set of lies” and accused her of harassing the consultant.

Worcester County Court heard that Mrs Giles, 50, had suffered serious medical conditions for 16 years and was desperate to get it sorted out by the time she was referred to Mr Thomson.

Her husband, Peter, 65, said they decided to take no action after the initial alleged assault, during the examination because it was better to “stick with the devil we knew rather than the devil we didn’t know”.

He added: “My wife had endured 16 years of absolute misery with her medical conditions.

“For 16 years she suffered – we were prepared to keep bending, and bending and bending until my wife got her treatment.”

He added: “What I should have done is gone down and sorted Mr Thomson out. My wife and I sat down and discussed it and decided after 16 years of suffering my wife had had enough and didn’t want the trauma of going through another gynaecologist.

“We’d let him treat the fibroid and call it a day. It’s not something you go and talk to any Tom, Dick or Harry about.”

Mr Giles, from Droitwich Spa, Worcs, said they finally raised the issue of his conduct after Mr Thomson refused to see his wife.

He said: “We had taken all sorts of sexual harassment and sexual abuse given by Mr Thomson to my wife and I had enough. I decided it had to be brought to a head.”

The court also heard there had been suggestions that Mrs Giles had been a Miss Guyana, that her quantity surveyor husband Peter was a diplomat in Russia and that she had been involved in treating Michael Jackson and Oprah Winfrey in her work as a cosmetologist. However, she denied all claims.

It was, however, disclosed that Mrs Giles was friendly with presidents of Guyana, Members of Parliament in the South American state and that she had met Royalty in the shape of Princess Anne at a function.

Denying the sexual assault and sexual harassment claims, Mr Thomson, said: “I can’t believe it has come to this. I can’t believe that through me doing what I do professionally I have ended up here with the patient doctor relationship having broken down, so absolutely.

“I consider myself to be professional in what I do. And find my work extremely important to me in every patient that I see.

“To find myself in this position is unbelievable.”
The hearing continues.
