Commodore Best says there are still good soldiers in the Force
The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) yesterday held its Soldier’s Day at Camp Base Stephenson, Timehri, East Bank Demerara, where soldiers were served a special lunch, after a hilarious and entertaining cultural programme by soldiers including the Smoking Jammers Band and the GDF Frontline Band performing several Christmas songs. There were skits and poems too.

Chief of Staff Commodore Gary Best yesterday told the soldiers that their Commander in Chief, President Bharrat Jagdeo, who was overseas sent his regards.
Best said that it was a difficult year for the army because of certain incidents involving soldiers and the GDF is learning from their adversities.
He said they have since revised the Standard Operating Procedure for the GDF, and noted that there are still good soldiers in the Force; not because some did bad things all are bad.

Commodore Best said, “We have to be strong to weather the storm and we are the best training institution.”
He admonished soldiers to be on the alert at this time of the year when national security is tested.
Commodore Best urged the soldiers to be diligent and focus on their education, wellness and fitness.
He said that he is awaiting a response from President Jagdeo regarding field allowances for Infantry troops who spent 23 months away from their families.
The Chief of Staff also wished the soldiers season’s greetings.
