I am a regular reader of Mr. Freddie Kissoon’s column in the Kaieteur News, however, I am beginning to realise that he is not an honest person. I was shocked by his behaviour on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at the GRA’s Customs Office at GPO building where he was arguing at the top of his voice with Customs Officers concerning why he and someone else have to pay duty on some items that were sent to him from abroad.
I was even more shocked when I read his Monday, December 7, 2009 column, which from what I understand was complete the opposite of what actually transpired between Mr. Kissoon and the Customs Officers at GPO building. On Sunday, November 29, 2009, he wrote an article about property tax. Kissoon seems to be a rich man because apparently he has assets in excess of $7.5 million dollars yet he complains of being poor.
I know for a fact that Mr. Kissoon has a big house in Turkeyen, which he built on some very high posts because he is afraid that we will experience another flood like in 2005. From the look at the house alone, one can tell that the owner is a rich man. Mr. Kissoon is therefore living a double standard life where on one hand he claims to be poor by not being able to pay duty on items sent to him from abroad and yet he has a big house and a car in Turkeyen.
Mr. Kissoon should stop being a charlatan and do his job in a professional manner. He claims to be a University Lecturer and a Journalist, yet he does not even know the first rule of journalism which states that a journalist should report accurate, transparent and accountable information, which has been gathered from reliable and trustworthy sources and not sources of a hypocritical nature.
I am certain that the general public’s opinion and perception of him is slowly diminishing because of the kind of dishonest information that he sometimes provides in his writings.
I am disappointed in him since I had high regard and respect for him as a former student of his at the University of Guyana.
