PORT of SPAIN, Trinidad and Tobago – The Directors and Executive of the West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) have, at a recent meeting, welcomed the appointment of Michael ‘Larry’ Romany as its Chief Operations Officer (COO).
Romany is the current Honorary President of the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee and Chairman of the Trinidad and Tobago Professional Football League.
Romany has had a distinguished career in sport both as a coach and administrator. He brings to WIPA a wealth of experience and a broad insight and understanding of issues and complexities inherent in today’s constantly-changing sporting environment.
WIPA President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dinanath Ramnarine, expressed immense satisfaction at having Romany as a member of the organisation’s secretariat because, in the former’s view, “there are few people that have the passion and drive for, and knowledge of, administration of sport as Larry”.
According to WIPA’s head, the appointment of Romany is a step in the right direction for WIPA since it would contribute significantly to the strengthening of the institution that would result in better support for its members and cricket in the region.
Romany sees his appointment as “a compelling opportunity to make a contribution to the strengthening of one of the most enduring institutions in the Caribbean-West Indies cricket”. He shares WIPA’s vision as well as those of its president whom he finds progressive in his thinking, positive and forthright.
