Man held in Annandale robbery

A man is in police custody assisting with investigations following an armed robbery which occurred at Annandale, East Coast Demerara on Tuesday.

Police reported that at about 18:15h, a businessman was attacked by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun, and robbed of his licensed revolver and six rounds of ammunition.

The businessman was about to enter his premises with his motor vehicle when he was confronted by the men who held him at gunpoint and took away the firearm and ammunition and escaped, Police said.

In a separate incident, two men are in police custody following an armed robbery on Tuesday night at ‘C’ Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown.

Police said at about 21:30h, taxi-driver Dale Persaud of Gordon Street, Kitty, was attacked and robbed by three men, two of whom were armed with a handgun and a knife.

Persaud was hired by the three men from his taxi base for Sophia. At ‘C’ Field, he was held up and the men took away the motor vehicle HB 6920, $21,000 in cash, a cell phone and a wrist watch and escaped in the vehicle, Police said.

The Toyota vehicle was later found by the police abandoned on the Georgetown Seawall.
