– as her car collides with an ambulance
A collision among an ambulance and two motor cars at the junction of Irving Street and Thomas Road, just outside the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Compound last evening, has left Minister within the Ministry of Education, Dr Desrey Fox, seriously injured and warded at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).

The two cars involved in the accident were Minister Fox’s private car and hire car HB 4065 transporting a woman and her two children to Ogle, East Coast Demerara.
The accident happened around 18:00 h as a Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation’s ambulance was responding to an emergency call to pick up a patient at Haslington, East Coast Demerara.
Witnesses at the scene of the accident related that as the siren was being sounded, all vehicles within the vicinity at that time, came to a stop to give the ambulance the right of way. However, they claim the Minister’s driver who was proceeding west out of Sandy Babb Street into Thomas Road, had the green light in his favour, but apparently did not hear the siren as his windows were up. As a result, he did not stop to allow the speeding ambulance to pass, resulting in the collision.
The ambulance and the Minister’s car collided and both vehicles were flung off the roadway and onto the parapet. Both vehicles were badly damaged as was the hire car travelling out of Thomas Road.
Witnesses recalled that on impact, a child from the hire car was hurled several feet into the air and landed on the roadside.
Others hurt included a mother and her two young children travelling in the hire car
