Remanded for causing death by dangerous driving

Sunil Roopnarine, 37, of 11 Alliance Road, Timehri, East Bank Demerara, was yesterday remanded to prison on a charge for causing death by dangerous driving.

He appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson and pleaded not guilty to the charge, which stated that on December 3, 2009, he drove his motor lorry, GLL 308, in a manner dangerous to the public, causing the death of Earl Abrams.

Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, objected to bail and stated that the defendant informed the police that someone else was driving his vehicle on the day in question.

The prosecutor said the police could not locate the other person who the defendant claimed was driving.
The matter was transferred to Christiansburg court for December 9.
