TWO thousand five hundred schoolchildren will witness the semifinals of the annual Kashif and Shanghai Football Tournament free of cost.
Yesterday, Naeem Nazir, Chief Executive Officer of Bakewell, handed over 2 500 tickets to Principal Education Officer of the Ministry of Education, Marcel Hutson, at the ministry’s head office.
In making the presentation, Nazir said his company is pleased to be associated with the tournament as it assists with the development of sport in Guyana generally.
In response, Hutson thanked the Kashif and Shanghai organisers and stated that his ministry is grateful for the support the Kashif and Shanghai organisation has been giving to the education system over the years.
In accepting the tickets, Hutson said his ministry believes in balance – rounded individuals – when it comes to a child’s development, both academically and with their involvement in sports.
The total cost of the 2 500 tickets is $175 000.
According to Kashif and Shanghai Co director Aubrey `Shanghai’ Major, schools in Upper Demerara will receive 1 500 tickets for the quarter-final matches that will take place in that community later in the month.
