TRANSPORT Sports Club (TSC) and Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) recorded victories when action in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)-organised BUSTA second division Twenty20 cricket competition continued yesterday.
At the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground in Queenstown, TSC recorded back-to-back victories over Ace Warriors and Third Class while MSC turned back the challenge of Vikings at their Thomas Lands venue.
In the TSC/Ace Warriors match, the victors won the toss and asked their opponents, who turned up more than 25 minutes late for the fixture and with one man short, to take first strike and bowled them out for 86 in a game which was reduced by four overs.
Ishaka Jackman 26 (3×4, 1×6), Victor Bacchus 16 (2×6) and Leon Bookie 15 (1×6, 1×4) were the principal scorers for Ace Warriors against the bowling of Shawn Massiah who took 3-20 and Oslyn Batson (2-20) for TSC who replied with 87-3 from 12 overs.
Carl Rambharose led the way with 30 which was decorated with five fours. He received support from Chandra Persaud and Marc Nicholson who both struck two fours in their 18, while Jackman returned to scalp 2-31 for Ace Warriors.
In their second game against Third Class, TSC, invited to take first strike, were held to 126 for the loss of seven wickets, with Rambharose making 47 (5×4, 1×6), Massiah an unbeaten 26 (2×4), Nicholson 15 and Rawle Enmore 11.
Andrew O’Neil took 3-9 and Vickram Ramsundar 2-23 for Third Class who made a spirited effort to deny TSC a double victory in their reply, but fell short by seven runs, as they ended on 119-7 off their 20 overs.
Chris Teekaram 31 (3×4, 1×6), Ramsundar 19 (1×6) and Anthony Bernard and Keon Bailey with 14 each tried valiantly to keep their team in the fray against their more illustrious opponents but such was not to be, as Azim Azeez 3-18 and Batson 2-11 ensured TSC recorded their second victory of the day.
At MSC, a solid all-round performance from Shaquille McWilliams guided the home team to a four-wicket victory over the lesser known Vikings Cricket Club.
Winning the toss and opting to take first strike, Vikings made a spirited 151-8 from their 20 overs, with T. Henry 68 (7×4, 3×6), V. Dalloo 35 (3×4, 1×6) and D. Noble 18* (2×6) being the leading batsmen, while McWilliams took 4-13 and Neil Barry Jr 2-18 for MSC.
Troy Lewis 36 (3×4, 2×6), Delvon McEwan 25 (6×4), McWilliams 21 (1×4, 1×6) and Barry Jr and Randy Lindore 15 each with both batsmen hitting one six and a four ensured their team maintained their unbeaten status in the tournament. They ended on 152-6 from 18.4 overs, even though Henry took 2-25 for Vikings.
Action in the tournament continues today.
