DAVINDRA Ferrier (no address given) was yesterday remanded to prison for unlawfully assaulting his reputed wife.
The man appeared before Magistrate Priya Beharry and pleaded not guilty to the charge, which stated that on November 21, he unlawfully assaulted Priya Bhoowan.
Police Sergeant Krishnandat Ramana, prosecuting, said the defendant and the virtual complainant always have misunderstandings. He said on the day in question, the defendant went out and when he returned, the virtual complainant questioned him about his whereabouts.
He said the defendant became annoyed and slapped Bhoowan, who is pregnant.
The magistrate remanded him to prison and the matter was transferred to another court for November 30.
Meanwhile, in the same court Kumar Shaw was also remanded to prison for allegedly assaulting his reputed wife.
Particulars of the offence stated that on November 21, he unlawfully assaulted Radika Shivraj.
Prosecutor Ramana told the court that Shaw is always abusive towards the virtual complainant. He said on the day in question, the defendant was under the influence of alcohol and he chopped Shivraj.
The matter was transferred to Wales court for December 3. (Nathalene DeFreitas)
