WCDF holds workshop in St Lucia

Dominica return to the sport
THE World Council of Domino Federation (WCDF) held a referees’ workshop in the island of St Lucia recently, as part of its preparation for the 2010 domino championships.

According to a press release, the all-day training session formed part of a big weekend package, in which secretary-general of the WCDF Barbados’ Charles Lovell noted that even though the current global financial situation had its impact on the attendance, it did not affect the quality of the workshop or the enthusiasm of the participants.

A bright light at the workshop was the attendance of representatives from Dominica, who, after a long absence from the sport, would be making a comeback at the next domino championships which is scheduled for the first week in October next year in St Lucia, to which their two delegates received a thunderous applause after making such announcement.

St Lucia, who are the defending champions and last hosted the games in 2002, also have lead responsibility for the referees who will be in charge of the upcoming championships, and they will gear themselves for two inspections by visiting WCDF delegations next year, with the first one expected to include venue and accommodation.

The training of officials will continue in member countries including the hosts, leading up to the championships.
