Police awaiting OPR report on alleged teen torture

THE Police yesterday said they are awaiting a report from the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR), following the allegations of torture inflicted on the 14-year-old boy at Leonora Police Station, West Coast Demerara.

The Police said investigations are ongoing after President Bharrat Jagdeo, last Thursday, set a two weeks deadline for the completion.

Last week, Police Commissioner Henry Greene said the injured lad, who was held in connection with the murder of former Region Three (Essequibo Islands/West Demerara) Vice-Chairman Ramenaught Bisram, has confessed to the unlawful killing.

But the Top Cop could not say if the confession was secured before or after the suspect suffered the injuries.

He said, however, that they are waiting for the teen, hospitalised under Police guard, to identify the policemen who allegedly tortured him while in custody.
