MARK Bannister, 21, of Third Street, Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, was fined $25,000 with the alternative of six months imprisonment yesterday, for escaping from lawful custody. The monetary penalty was imposed on him by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson after he pleaded guilty to the charge. He admitted that, on September 3, while being held on a charge of unlawful wounding, he escaped.
The defendant claimed he had gone to a Police station after a fight with another man but walked out after the officer-in-charge slapped him on his face.
